A 1-person sauna is for the person who has decided they want this in their life and does not have a spare room to give it. These fit in a bedroom corner, a home office, a wide hallway or a small basement — and most plug into a normal wall outlet.

This is also the size to look at if you are tall or short and have struggled to sit comfortably in a shared cabin. A solo unit lets you pick the bench height that suits you rather than compromising.

Infrared or traditional?

Infrared dominates this size and for good reason: it plugs into a standard 120V outlet, warms up in about ten minutes, and needs no ventilation work. Ideal for apartments and rentals.

Traditional in a 1-person size means a compact cabin with a small electric heater. You get real steam, but you will need 240V power and proper ventilation.

Practical notes

  • Footprint — most 1-person cabins sit around 36" x 36", roughly the space of an armchair.
  • Assembly — buckle-together panels, usually one person and an hour.
  • Moving house — these come apart again, which is why renters buy them.
  • Weight — check upper-floor loading if you are putting one above a garage or in a converted attic.

Will it work in an apartment?

For sitting, yes. If you want to lie flat, go to a 2-person model — the step up in price is smaller than most people expect.

How much does it add to the power bill?

An infrared 1-person unit draws roughly the same as a hair dryer. Four sessions a week typically lands under $10 a month.
