2-Person Indoor Traditional Saunas

A 2-person indoor traditional sauna brings real Finnish heat inside — heated stones, löyly steam, 170–190°F — in a footprint that fits a basement corner, a spare room or a large bathroom. No yard needed, no weather to design around.

Indoor traditional is a different project from an outdoor cabin. The cabin itself is simpler because it is not fighting rain and snow, but you take on ventilation and moisture management instead.

What the room needs

  • 240V circuit — a stone heater cannot run on a standard outlet. Budget for an electrician.
  • Ventilation — intake low near the heater, exhaust high on the opposite wall. This is the step people skip and later regret.
  • Flooring — tile, sealed concrete or vinyl. Not carpet, not unsealed hardwood.
  • Ceiling height — you want at least 7ft. Heat stratifies, and a low ceiling puts the hot layer at head height while your feet stay cold.
  • Door swing — sauna doors open outward, always, for safety.

Choosing the cabin

Pre-built kits assemble in a day and suit most homes. Cut-to-fit builds cost more but let you use an awkward alcove or an existing closet. Nordic spruce and cedar are the usual interiors; cedar smells better and costs more.

Common questions

Will it make the room damp?

Not with correct ventilation and a normal session. A properly vented sauna dries itself out between uses.

Can it go in a basement?

Basements are the most common location. Confirm ceiling height and that you can route ventilation.

How long to heat up?

30–45 minutes for a 2-person room. Timers and WiFi controls are worth having so it is ready when you are.
