Two-person is the size most households actually need. Enough room to share a session or stretch out alone, small enough that it fits a spare room, a basement corner or a modest patio — and cheap enough to run that you will use it on a Tuesday, not just on holidays.

It is also the size with the widest choice. Infrared, traditional, barrel, cabin and hybrid all exist at two-person, so the decision is about how you want to use it rather than what will fit.

Picking your heat

Infrared — 120–150°F, ten-minute warm-up, standard outlet on most models. The easiest indoor install and the gentlest heat.

Traditional — stones, steam, 175°F+. Needs 240V and ventilation. Nothing else feels like it.

Hybrid — both, in one cabin. Costs more and settles the argument.

Indoor or outdoor

Indoor kits are simpler and cheaper because they are not built to fight weather. Outdoor barrels and cabins cost more but free up interior space and, for a lot of people, are simply nicer to walk out to.

Do two adults fit comfortably?

Seated, easily. For one person lying flat, check bench depth — 24 inches or more.

What does it cost to run?

An infrared 2-person unit is usually under $15 a month with regular use. A traditional 6kW heater runs somewhat more.

Where do most people put them?

Basements and spare bedrooms indoors; patios and side yards outdoors. All you really need is a level surface and the right power.
