3-Person Infrared Saunas

A 3-person infrared sauna is the size most people actually want. Two can stretch out properly, three fit comfortably sitting, and it still runs off household power in most models — no electrician, no permit, no foundation.

Infrared works at 120–150°F rather than the 180°F+ of a traditional sauna. Carbon or ceramic emitters warm your body directly instead of heating the whole room, so you sweat hard while the air stays comfortable to breathe. People who find traditional saunas suffocating almost always prefer infrared.

Carbon vs ceramic emitters

Carbon panels spread heat evenly across a large surface at a lower temperature, and they run lower EMF. This is what most quality cabins use now.

Ceramic rods get hotter in a smaller spot — more intense if you sit close, less even overall. Usually found at lower price points.

Full spectrum adds near and mid infrared on top of far infrared. Worth it if you are buying for recovery rather than relaxation.

Before you order

  • Power — most 3-person units run on a dedicated 120V 20-amp circuit. A few full-spectrum models want 240V.
  • Wood — Canadian hemlock is nearly odorless and the usual choice; cedar is aromatic and costs more.
  • Interior depth — check bench depth, not cabin width. A wide cabin with a shallow bench still means sitting upright.
  • Ceiling height — most are around 6’3". Measure your basement joists.

Common questions

How long until it is warm?

10–15 minutes to reach temperature. Most people run a 30–45 minute session.

Does it really fit three?

Three seated, comfortably. If you want two people lying down, size up to 4-person.

Can it go in a garage?

Yes, as long as the space stays above freezing and is dry. Unheated garages in cold climates are hard on the electronics.
