6-Person Indoor Traditional Saunas

A 6-person indoor traditional sauna is a serious room — heated stones, real löyly, two-tier benches and enough volume that the heat surrounds you rather than radiating off one wall. Built into a basement or dedicated space, it becomes the best room in the house.

It is also the most demanding indoor install we sell. The cabin is the easy part; the room around it does the work.

What the space needs

  • Ceiling height — 7ft minimum, ideally more. Heat stratifies hard in a room this size and a low ceiling wastes most of it.
  • 240V circuit for an 8–9kW heater, sized and installed by an electrician.
  • Ventilation — intake low beside the heater, exhaust high on the far wall. Non-negotiable at this capacity.
  • Flooring — tile or sealed concrete with a floor drain if you can manage one.
  • Structural load — stone heaters are heavy. Check the floor if it is not on slab.

Layout notes

Two tiers are the point of this size. The upper bench can run 20°F hotter than the lower, so one room serves people who want very different things. Allow enough depth on the upper bench for someone to lie down.

Common questions

Will it make the basement damp?

Not with correct ventilation. A properly vented sauna dries itself out between sessions — problems come from skipping the vents, not from the sauna itself.

How long to heat up?

40–60 minutes. Almost everyone at this size runs it on a timer or WiFi control.

Can I fit one in an existing room?

Often yes. Cut-to-fit builds exist precisely for awkward basements. Send us your dimensions and we will tell you honestly whether it works.
