Electric Sauna Heaters
An electric sauna heater is the practical choice for almost any sauna with power at the site. Set a timer or start it from your phone, and walk into a hot room without tending a fire. We stock Harvia and HUUM units from 3kW up to 10.5kW, roughly $1,100 to $4,500.
Sizing — the part people get wrong
The working rule is about 1kW per 45–50 cubic feet of room volume. Add capacity for a glass door, an uninsulated log wall, or a room with significant exposed stone or tile.
Undersizing is the most expensive mistake in a sauna build, because the only real fix is a new heater and often a new circuit. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.
Wall-mounted, floor-standing or pillar
Wall-mounted saves floor space and suits small to mid-size rooms. Lower stone capacity.
Floor-standing and pillar hold far more stones, which gives softer steam that lasts longer after each pour. Better for larger rooms and for anyone who pours often.
What else you need
- 240V dedicated circuit, breaker sized from the heater spec sheet by an electrician.
- A control unit — many heaters require a separate controller. Check whether it is included.
- Heater stones — use proper sauna stones. Ordinary rock can crack or explode when water hits it.
- Clearances — every heater specifies minimum distances to benches and walls. These are safety requirements, not suggestions.
Common questions
Can any of these run on 120V?
No. Traditional stone heaters need 240V. If a standard outlet is your only option, look at infrared saunas instead.
How long do they last?
Elements typically run 10–15 years in home use. Stones should be restacked annually and replaced every few years as they break down.
Is WiFi control worth it?
On anything that takes 40 minutes to heat, yes. It is the difference between a sauna you use and one you keep meaning to use.
